Research on Electrical Conductivity of Stainless Steel Slag Containing Cr2O3

  • The electrical conductivity of stainless steel slag containing Cr2O3 was determined by 4-probe technique (Mo leads), and effects of Cr2O3 content and basicity, on the relationship of the slag electrical conductivity with temperature were studied. The conductance activation energy of different slag systems was also obtained. Results show that the electrical conductivity of all the slag decreases with temperature falling, for slag with basicity of 1.00, 1.25 and 1.50, the electrical conductivity decreases with the increase of Cr2O3 content. When Cr2O3 content keeps constant, the basicity increases from 1.00 to 1.50, the conductance activation energy is increased, and then the electrical conductivity declines more remarkably with temperature falling. The quenched slag was detected by X-ray diffraction and it is found that under the condition of quenching, spinel and merwinite are still precipitated, which can explain the declining of the electrical conductivity with temperature falling.
