Thermal Performance of Composite Phase-change Materials of Glycol Monostearate and Cetyl Alcohol

  • Taking ethylene glycol monostearate (EGMS) and hexadecanol(H) as raw materials, a series of composite phase-change materials (PCMs) of EGMS-H were prepared by meltblending method. The structure and composition of the composite PCMs were characterized by X ray diffraction (XRD)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The thermal properties of composite PCMs were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal conductivity tester and step cooling curves. The results show that the mixture of EGMS and H is a simple mechanical mixture; when the mass ratio of EGMS and H is 1:1, a low eutectic mixture is formed, and the low eutectic temperature is 41.6℃. The average heat transfer rate of the system is 41.13% lower than that of pure cetyl alcohol, and the lowest thermal conductivity of EGMS-H composite PCMs is 0.227 6 W/(m·K),compared with pure EGMS or H, its holding time is longer.
